The government has announced a review of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act.
It may be a coincidence that this review has been announced days after Commissioner Reding said she intends to prosecute the UK for the inadequacies of this act.
But we fully expect the government to indicate their intention to address her concerns in this review.
Just as fundamentally, the government must use this opportunity to increase judicial oversight of surveillance and end the absurdity of issuing ministerial warrants, which in reality cannot possibly receive proper scrutiny.

PECR are the set of regulations that are meant to implement the ePrivacy Directive (as referred to by the European Commission) in the UK, so don't you think that the Government needs to a thorough review of this legislation too?
And don't you think that the ICO needs to be trained in understanding the ePrivacy Directive so his staff can give accurate statements on the legality (or not) of certain behaivioural targeting technologies?

I don't want the EU spying on my e-mails or telephone calls. I would like to be informed of any new developments and legislation that threaten our privacy and freedom.
