The UK’s over reliance on a small number of foreign technology companies is putting our economy, security and democracy at risk. But now the movement away from Big Tech and towards Digital Sovereignty is gaining momentum.

Join us for a timely discussion on how the UK can build democratic and public control over our digital infrastructure, data and technology. The conversation will explore the role of Open Source software, open standards, and the Digital Commons in creating a more resilient, transparent, and equitable digital future.

We will be joined by:

Jim Killock, Executive Director at Open Rights Group.

Megan Kirkwood researcher and writer specializing in issues related to competition policy, with a particular focus on the dynamics of digital markets and regulatory frameworks.

Jordan Maris, A former advisor to an MEP focused on tech policy in the European Parliament, Jordan now works as the EU policy analyst for the Open Source Initiative, with a focus on educating lawmakers on the benefits of Open Source, and making laws with Open Source in mind

The panel discussion will be followed by a Q&A, and breakout groups where we can discuss opportunities for campaigning for Digital Sovereignty and the Digital Commons.
