Thank you: it’s not over yet

Just a quick update on the debate today. The Conservative and Lib Dem final positions were a disappointment; the group of backbench Labour MPs expressing serious concerns were the best, alongside John Redwood, whose analysis of why ramming things through without debate is likely to cause problems was superb.

Well done to those MPs prepared to stand up for common sense! They join well-known web anarchists the Scottish Law Society in warning today that these proposals are likely to break human rights law.

The final debate is tomorrow, and the Third Reading vote is tomorrow evening, at around 9pm. Yes, that’s right, it’s all over in a day. Except of course, it won’t be, we will be opposing this for as long as it remains in law, or until it is defeated in the courts, should it be passed.
