ORG supporters jump by 20%, 15k sign petition

Since Mandelson announced that disconnection will be on the agenda, nearly 200 people have joined the Open Rights Group as a donating supporter.

Many of those people have found us through our campaigning, in the media and on social media, especially Twitter.

This will be a huge boost to our campaigning next year. If Mandelson doesn’t drop his plans, you will be guaranteed that we will be fighting to defend your rights even harder and more effectively because of the surge in ORG supporters.

Meanwhile, the campaign has really found its voice on Twitter. Amazingly, over the weekend, a series of high profile twitter users, such as @Glinner, @tom_watson, @stephenfry, @alandavies1 and ORG patron @neilhimself pushed people to the Number 10 petition opposing disconnection, which now has over 15,000 signatures.

Thousands of others retweeted the link.

But signing a petition is not enough. It’s a great signal: it shows what we can do. But there are two things you can do which will have a much greater effect. The first, is to phone or email your MP. This will let them know people are really concerned. MPs assume if one person writes, hundreds of others are concerned.

The second thing you can do is join as an ORG supporter. This will help our campaigning into next year, as we oppose these appalling plans.
