Open Rights Group is part of the VIRT-EU project, which stands for Values and ethics in Innovation for Responsible Technology in Europe.
VIRT-EU is a consortium of international organisations and universities seeking to understand how the development of the Internet of Things (IoT) affects ethics, data protection and privacy. Partners include IT University of Copenaghen, Copenaghen Institute of Interaction Design, Uppsala University, Politecnico di Torino, London School of Economics and Open Rights Group.
By first understanding how hardware and software entrepreneurs weigh ethical implications when designing new connected devices, VIRT-EU seeks to create a new framework for Privacy, Ethical and Social Impact Assessment (PESIA). The new PESIA framework will then be used to improve the design and development processes of technological innovation so connected devices more closely match the ethical and social values of the EU.
This project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 732027.
