On 21st October, LIBE - the Civil Liberties committee of the European Parliament - will be holding a crucial vote on new EU data protection proposals.
We're in real danger that they'll allow companies to just remove our names from their customer records but still use that data to, for example, direct advertising at us.
They're also deciding whether to bring in truly meaningful sanctions for companies that break the rules. If the penalties are too weak, we risk companies just misusing our data without having to worry about the consequences.
