Internet censorship by Vodafone
From Orgwiki
Vodafone use content control to filter the content available on mobile phones and on computers via 3G broadband (HSDPA). Content control defaults to ON and can only be removed with a credit card or by personal application to a Vodafone store with photo ID. Those seen as over 18 for the purposes of being given a contract are still seen as below 18 for the purposes of content control.
Content control also regularly breaks blocking sites even for proven adults. If vodafone (due to technical failure) cannot check whether you have disabled content control it defaults to blocking.
Content control does not just block p****graphy and gambling. It blocks many others including:
- All chat services eg google chat, IRC
- Photo uploading services such as flickr, photobucket and imageshack
- Bits of wikipedia including the article on Internet censorship (but not the article on Internet_censorship_in_the_United_Kingdom
- The website of Tor and similar
- All p2p services
