Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the British scientist who invented the World Wide Web, has urged the British Government to make more of the data it collects available online.
He criticised departments for releasing information in formats that are difficult for others to re-use, which he said undermined the original collaborative spirit and purpose of the web.
"The message is, give us your raw data," he said in a speech to mark the centenary of the Science Museum in Kensington, south west London.
