MPs approve ID card fines

Glyn Wintle, 07 July 2009

A spokesperson for the Home Office confirmed to GC News that MPs had approved the process to make people subject to fines. He said they would not be used as a first step, and that people would only be fined for refusing rather than neglecting to update their details. If evidence emerges that a card holder has not provided notification they will be given the opportunity to update their details, but those who ignore the instructions would be subject to a basic fine of £125.
