Jim Killock, Executive Director
Before joining the Open Rights Group in January 2009, Jim worked as External Communications Co-ordinator of the Green Party. At the Green Party, he promoted campaigns on open source, intellectual property, digital rights and campaigned against the arms and espionage technologist Lockheed Martin’s bid for the UK Census. Lockheed Martin have since been prevented from handling UK Census data as part of their contract. He was also a leading figure in the campaign to elect their first party leader, Caroline Lucas MEP. Michael Holloway, Operations Manager
Despite his love for rhythm and business, working in record labels and recording artist management left Michael disillusioned with the music industry. He’s now putting his law degree and cultural enthusiasm to better use in civil society. Michael admires and, increasingly, exhibits many geek characteristics.
Becky Hogge, Executive Director Jan 2007-Jan 2009
Before joining the Open Rights Group in January 2007, Becky was the managing editor, and then the technology director and technology commissioning editor for www.openDemocracy.net. During her time there she established the China environment website www.chinadialogue.net, along with editor Isabel Hilton. As a writer and commentator, she covers the global politics of technology, open source, and intellectual property rights. She writes a weekly technology column for the New Statesman and has also written for The Guardian, Index on Censorship, Dazed & Confused and The Face.
Suw Charman, Executive Director, January 2006 - January 2007
Suw Charman is a social software consultant and writer who specialises in the use of blogs and wikis behind the firewall. With a background in journalism, publishing and web design, Suw is now one of the UK’s best known bloggers, frequently speaking at conferences and seminars.
Jason Kitcat, e-Voting coordinator, March - October 2007
Jason Kitcat is Head of Technology at Netmums, a leading grassroots parenting site. Jason also researches voting, e-voting and e-democracy. On these he regularly speaks at conferences and is quoted in the media. He has worked with online communities since the early 1990s and has founded or co-founded a number of technology related companies. He holds a BSc(Hons) from the University of Warwick in Computer Science & Management Science, MSc Technology & Innovation Management from the University of Sussex. He is half English and half French-Canadian. Jason is a Green City Councillor for Regency Ward on Brighton & Hove City Council and Chair of Brighton & Hove Green Party. In 2007 Jason completed a part-time contract as e-voting co-ordinator at the Open Rights Group, where he continues to contribute in a voluntary capacity.
